Pingtung Branch office & Laopi Tea Farm
About Us
Domestic tea leaves output is not sufficient to meet the market demands, so there is a large amount of imported tea from foreign countries; however, the quality of imported tea is uneven, and there are occurrence of the problems associated with pesticide residues occasionally to cause food safety problems that have resulted in the hidden worries in development of tea industry in Taiwan. In view of this, Taiwan Tea Corporation has adopted organic farming or natural farming method in the plantation of safe tea leaves currently; however, with the limited production, besides the continuous restoration of the old self-owned tea farms, the company has actively developed Pingtung Laopi Tea Farm, which has adopted the intelligent method in the tea tree plantation.
Pingtung Laopi Tea Farm, the affiliate of Taiwan Tea Corporation is located in Neipu Township, Pingdong County with a total area of 717 hectares, and the geological soil condition is between PH 4.5 and PH5.1, which consists of 3.5% organic substances, good red soil featuring well drainage, and the soil quality meets the requirements of growing tea trees. In the future, it's planned to be Taiwan's largest tea plantation base that produces high-quality Taiwanese local tea leaves for replacing the imported tea leaves.
In order to make the effective use of the low altitude flat land for planting tea trees of good species, Laopi Tea Farm has planted flat-ground tea trees and carried out the researches and development of the new species, including planting, modern irrigation system, mechanical tea tree breeding and harvesting system, tea factory with automation, and other agricultural technology investment on long-term training of technical personnel and the introduction of applied biotechnology in order to enhance the future output value and achieve the goal of upgrading the tea industry. The long-term plan with the predicted annual total production capacity of 3,100 metric tons can replace 10% of the imported tea leaves and hope to supply all kinds of safe tea leaves used in Taiwan's market as well as improve the tea drinking quality of fellow countrymen.
